Speaking & Consulting
A keynote for the people who hold everyone else up.
Patrick speaks to rooms full of people who carry other people: nurses, physicians, chaplains, techs, aides, and the leaders responsible for all of them. The talk starts with relief and ends with something a team can build together.
The keynote
Permission first. Then a better way to work together.
Most people in healthcare learned to carry the weight quietly. Patrick names it out loud: the moral and emotional cost of caring for people on their hardest days, and the loneliness of carrying it by yourself. The people in the room hear that what they feel is real, that they aren't weak for feeling it, and that they aren't alone.
Then the talk turns from me to we. The weight gets lighter when a team carries it together, and Patrick shows what that looks like on an ordinary shift.
He teaches psychological safety as a caregiving practice. Harvard's Amy Edmondson first described it while studying hospital nursing teams, and found something surprising: the best-led teams reported more errors, because people felt safe enough to say so. Psychological safety isn't about being nice or lowering the bar. It's a team where people can tell the truth, admit a mistake, and ask for help, and still be held to a high standard. Safety and accountability, together.
Patrick's keynotes are part of the One Mountain, Many Paths™ book and lecture series.

Why it matters to your organization
The people who feel safe to speak up are the people who stay.
~15,000
patient-facing healthcare workers in a 2024 study. Those who reported higher psychological safety reported lower intent to leave.1
27,000+
healthcare workers in a companion study. Psychological safety helped buffer the toll of tight resources on burnout and turnover intent over time.2
$60,090
estimated cost to replace one bedside RN. The average hospital loses about $5.19 million a year to RN turnover.3
